Crazy Jamaica Zooming in on Jamaica
  • Nightlife in Kingston-places to go when on a Jamaica vacation

    Quad – 20 – 22  Trinidad Terrace, New Kingston
    Tel: 1 876 754-7823

Located in the bustling area of New Kingston, Quad is the nightclub of choice for many uptown Kingstonians. The concept of Quad is four different nightclubs in one building:-

    Christopers
Located on the ground floor of Quad is the sophisticated Christopers. Enjoy jazz music whilst sipping on some fine wine or a martini in elegant surroundings. Dining is also available and Christophers occasionally hosts live bands.

    Oxygen
The most popular floor in Quad is Oxygen – playing predominantly dancehall music to a young crowd. Oxygen has more of a nightclub atmosphere then the other floors of Quad and features a large dancefloor, kept cool with powerful air condition units

    Voodoo
The top floor is home to Voodoo, the “oldies club”. The music in Voodoo ranges from reggae of the 1970s to early dancehall of the 1990s. Voodoo also features a balcony so you can it’s easy to take a break to cool down and chat.

    Taboo
Nestled in the basement of quad is Taboo, a “gentleman’s club”!

    POOL BAR-HILTON HOTEL:

In the early evening, many people both residents and non-residents go to the pool bar area in the hilton hotel complex. There is live music there seven nights a week , and you can have a relaxing drink whilst listening to various different kinds of music on different evenings.

There is a particularly good jazz group on a Monday and a traditonal Jamaican mento band one night in the midweek (I think it’s Wednesday).

Friday is probably the most popular night with a karaoke, but that’s not really my thing, and the standard of the “artistes” varies considerably.

The music finishes at ten o’clock, so go early. You can then retire to the Jonkanoo club (see seperate tip) upstairs, or sit in the pool bar until 0200

-The Jankanoo Lounge is a night club located at the Hilton Kingston. They offer a mixture of entertainment and it is an ok place to hang out. On some weekends they have regular club vibes with a DJ playing anything from 80’s disco music to the latest dancehall tunes. On Wednesdays or Thursday night they have Latin night, where a dance instructor gives Salsa lessons for the first hour or two, then for the rest of the night Latin music is played so you can practice what you learned or watch the pros dominate the dance floor. Occasionally there are book or album launches at the venue or local acts perform. It is best to call the Hilton’s front desk to find out what activity is planned for the night.
