Herbalists vs Scientific Medicine-Many people who use Jamaican herbs entertain this discussion
Healing with herbs is a very controversial subject. There are many people who regard herbal healing as antiquated hocus-pocus.
If you ask your family physician about herbs, for example,he or she may very well lecture you on the folly of trying to remedy even minor ailments with herb tea or poultices, citing the uncertainties of diagnosis and the shortcomings of the herbs on a whole.Ask a pharmacists and you may get a lecture on the impurities of the material and the vagaries of dosages.
On the other hand you may have read about or heard about or even know someone who claims to have hadsuccessful healing experiences with herbs. They cannot explain how or why they worked, they just worked.
These two approaches to healing exist in today’s society,as they have throughout much of History. One can be called rational, the other empirical.
Surprisingly,a recent survey revealed that close to 50% of all prescription-issued by rational physicians- contain drugs that are either directly derived from natural sources or synthesized from natural models as the sole ingredient or as one of the several ingredients
Traditional herbalists are strongly opposed to the use of bioactive molecules rather than the use of preparations made from whole herbs. They argue that even if the active ingredients are chemically identical, the other constituents naturally found in the plant are there for a purpose, either to help the active ingredients or to help protect against possible overdoses or side effects.
As for commonly used herbs such as garlic, peppermint, sage and so forth, pharmacologists generally will acknowledge that they do have certain medical properties, but they point out that these herbs are weak and not sufficiently dependable to use in a medical setting.
There has always been argument from both sides and there will always be. Both, Quite obviously can have a positive and a negative. If we could use them both, we would have nothing short of perfect medicine. We however do not live in a perfect world and the controversy will always be there,we have to figure out what is best for us on an individual level.
Most people believe in prevention. This is why herbs are very essential . The herbs help to cleanse the blood and therefore gets rid of toxins that builds up and causes degenerated diseases.Cleansing the blood is one of the most important thing you can do for yourself. There are so many herbs used for this purpose. When using herbs ,we really do not see the immediate effects like scientific medicine,it takes a longer time for us to see results. This happens as herbs does not mask the ailment, but get to the root of the problem.
Scientific medicine on the other hand is great !It can help prevent out brake of diseases among groups and even nations ,it temporarily saves lives !! It prolongs lives in deadly illnesses and allows patients to enjoy more time with their families.
This whole controversy stops with us the individuals ,we have to make that major decision for ourselves . Here are some questions we should ask ourselves.
1) What can we do to prevent some illnesses ?
2) How much is too much for me to take ?(herbs or scientific med.)
3) Will I be clear and be open minded about treatment ?
4) Which method will completely get me well ?
5)What are the side effects ?
6) How will these side effects affect my body later ?
7)How am I financially able to receive the treatment from both sides ?
8 ) Which one gives me more hope ?
Hopefully in asking these questions we will find out what is best for us on an individual level and hopefully answer for ourselves the solution regarding Herbalists vs. Scientific medicine.
